(13 Aug 2012) OVEREND WATTS, founder member of MOTT THE HOOPLE and writer of classic MTH song “Born Late 58” has co written the track “Hip Pop” with Grammy Award-nominated multi platinum artist, producer, personality and businessman DJ KHALED.
The track “Hip Pop” is on DJ KHALED’s new album “Kiss The Ring” which is released in the USA on 21st August 2012.
“Hip Pop” features not only DJ Khaled but also SCARFACE, NAS and DJ PREMIER.
DJ KHALED’s last single “I’m The One” debuted on Billboards Digital Songs chart at Number 5 and his last album “We The Best Forever” debuted at number 5 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. The man has got an entire culture of his own under the “We The Best Banner” and his first album “Listennn…The Album” cracked the Top 20 of the Billboard Top 200 back in 2006.
EDITORS NOTES: OVEREND WATTS was a driving force behind the MOTT THE HOOPLE reunion which resulted in five sold out nights at London’s Hammersmith Apollo back in 2009. After MTH split back in 1974 he formed MOTT and then BRITISH LIONS before moving into record production with his lifelong friend and MTH band member DALE GRIFFIN. Overend is currently living on a former croft in the Scottish Isles and he communicates to the outside world through his management company.
(25 Aug 2010) A new British Lions CD has been issued by Angel Air in the UK, this time capturing the band's live set at the Old Waldorf in San Fancisco in 1978. The three bonus tracks are studio demos of three British Lions songs. It is available at all fine retailers, as well as from the Angel Air website.
(2006) The Winter 2006 issue of Two Miles From Heaven contains part two of Overend's account of his trek along the 630-mile Southwest Coast Path in 2003. Recounted with both humor and brutal self-assessment, this exerpt of his journal covers the first week of his walk. The entire account of his successful hike along the longest National Trail is rumored to be almost ready for publication as a book.
(2005) Overend Watts has recorded a solo track called 'She's Real Gone', which appears on the Angel Air 2xCD release Family Anthology. The albums also includes several unreleased Mott The Hoople demos, new tracks by Dale Griffin and Verden Allen, a demo of Silence backing vocalist Jon Best, a track by The Buddies featuring Mick Ralphs, a new version of 'Roll Away The Stone' by The Ariel Bender Band.
(2004) The September 2004 issue of Two Miles From Heaven contains an article called Overland With Overend, in which Overend Watts recounts his experience tackling the Southwest Coast Path, a 630-mile hike along the coast from Minehead to Poole. In it he talks about his inspiration and preparations for 'The Big Walk', with Part Two of the story promised in a later issue. (1999) Overend Watts has contributed a previously-unreleased solo track called 'Carribean Hate Song' to a two-CD compilation album called Friends and Relatives, which was issued by Eagle Records in 1999. The rest of the album is comprised of tracks culled from various Angel Air releases related to Mott The Hoople.
