Too early to
say yet when or where I'll be touring, all I can say is I will be
touring, but I don't know the specifics as of yet. The
English tour is not yet set so I wouldn't buy tickets yet if I were
you. Wait until you see the dates on this site
before you do anything.
Pete Watts never
had an "H" guitar. He had a teardrop bass which was bigger and heavier
than the "H". I think Pete said I wrecked my "H" - the other "H"
(it's called "the weapon" - ah, the stupidity of youth!) hangs in
the Hard Rock Cafe in Osaka which answers another question I got.
Have I ever
thought of selling autographed CD's for a few bob extra. No - but
I'm thinking about it now!
I am proud -
very proud - when I hear my kids music. I think I probably influenced
Tracie in the beginning and I taught Jess all I knew on guitar (
took one afternoon). So maybe a bit in the beginning, but then they
took off on their own. We are all different generations so we can't
be of much help to one another - although I think we all can tell
a good song when we've heard one. My eldest, Steve, is just as talented,
but in another way. All three of my kids are great. I'm lucky.
Like I said,
I don't know where I'll tour yet - it's too soon to say - if the
Netherlands come up -we'll do it.
Ronno's favourite
guitar was a mildly metallic blue Telecaster, if I recall correctly.
I wanted him back on a Les Paul, but on the Telecaster he stayed
- probably just to spite me!
I don't know
if Toad's Place was the first show on that tour, but if I( said
that it may well have been. Usually rehearse 7-9 days before touring.
The Osaka "H"
guitar was especially made for me by TOKAI.
Chuck - I forwarded
your Email to the "powers that be" re. A.C. Thanks for the interest.
I think Napster's
good for unknown or lesser known people, but it's bad for people
who do well. How would you like to work all week and collect a pay
check with nothing it. That's what Napster does. It's stealing.
Getting a few
Emails regarding "Resurrection Mary" Let's hear it on the radio
in Chicago. Let's give it a shot. Glenn says you can usually find
copies of "Artful Dodger" at GEMM.COM , so that's solved that one.
I don't know
if Mott ever supported Queen after I left. Sorry.
A couple of
Emails regarding Andy York, both complimentary. I can only add that
doing the album I'm working on now has been a genuine blast. Not
only with Andy, but with everyone else as well. We're running about
three weeks late as I write (we were supposed to be finished by
Christmas) - but it sounds great - so I can't complain. We're on
mix number 10 now. We'll try to mix the final two this week and
the next week will be taken up with re-tweeking and mastering. This
is why I can't give a definite about touring right now. It all depends
on the record.
No I never did
record "Don't Let Go" (at least I don't think I did!).
The five most
memorable gigs of my life? Freddie Mercury's Memorial gig; Mick
Ronson's Memorial gig; Mott the Hoople/Queen at Hammersmith Odeon
London; Me and Darrell and the crew at the Astoria; me and Mick
at the Dominion; The Fillmore; the Bowery etc. The more I think
about this one the more I realize there's been a lot of great times.
Cleveland has to figure into it also LA and Detroit and Canada.
The Star Club in Hamburg before Mott. Oh so many great times. No
I can't give you a top 5 - it's impossible! P.S. This is from someone
in Newcastle. I remember having to stand up and tell 2,000 people
at the city hall we couldn't continue owing to the "incapacitation'
of a certain member of our merry little band. You can imagine the
reception I received - not one of my finer moments. And I don't
know what version of "Roll Away the Stone" to which you are referring.
I did it as a ballad for awhile. Is that what you mean? I don't
know if the "Alice" on the Hoople was the same as the Alice on Overnight
Angels. I don't even know anybody called Alice!
Dum di dum dum
- that was it!
Should the Queenies
have a go at making some new music? Who should they ask to sing
and if they asked me would I do it? Well, for a start the Queenies
have made enough music as Queen and I think it would take a lot
to get them together again - particularly John Deacon. It would
all depend on what the music was. If one of them came up with stuff
that excited the other two, I don't see why they couldn't. They're
all intelligent people. I think they'd have their pick of the world
for singers it they did have a go and they'd be sensible to pick
an unknown. It they asked me it would depend on what they wanted
me to do and if I was capable of doing it. I love them as people
and I know they love me too, but I wouldn't hold your breath!!!
Australia -
start the raffle!
Hello Mr. Usher!
How's Worthing by the sea. See you soon.
We'll play New
York soon. Will there be another MTH convention? I'm sure there
will be, but nothing's concrete yet despite what you might have
heard. I'll let you know when it's happening.
"Shades Off"
was written on a short tour of Scotland when I was still in Mott
the Hoople. I remember sitting on the bus and those words started
coming. Later on we had this long tail on "It Ain't Easy When You
Fall" which was a track on my first solo album. So I just spoke
the poem and we overdubbed onto the back end. Killed two birds with
one stone.
Angry Roo -
you gotta give me more than this to go on.
People can't
find MIA - try to find New Millenniums web site: www.n-m-c.co.uk
People still
asking for T-shirts etc. I'm sorry, it's just that we're busy right
now. When things settle down we'll get into that.
"Sons and Daughters"
was on Welcome to the Club only - as far as I know. Does anybody
know where Drew can get "Welcome to the Club" How about a search
of the web?
Do I still
do small clubs through the American heartland? Now and again mate
yes, I do.
Yes, we did
consider Roy Wood to produce Mott. We couldn't find him at the time.
I don't think he was speaking to certain people and was hard to
reach. He was keeping a low profile as they say.
San Francisco,
here I come.
Was there a
reason why there was no official record of Mott at the Uris Theater
- either audio or visual. Sure there was a great reason. We were
managed by Fred Heller and our label was Columbia Records. There's
two great reasons for a start!
Thank you for
correcting me Klaus. It was "Rockpalast" which you can get on video
(backstage -the lot). Actually I've seen "Mott" on Beatclub too
(1970).
It was great
with the E Streeters. Very sincere people - kinda like the situation
I'm in now. No, Bruce didn't contribute. Have I ever met Bruce?
Yes. I met him one night recently after one of the MSG shows. Miami
Steve took Trudi and I into see him. He was great. The genuine article.
That show - that night (Thursday) really got me.
I see Ricky
Byrd now and again. I'll give him your message. His wife, Carol
Kaye, (Kayos Productions) manages Jesse's band, American Degenerate.
Ellen Foley
got married and had children. I did a tour with Todd Rundgren for
John Anderson's presidential campaign. Meat may have got up one
night. I can't remember. No bands have excited me of late. My son's
favourite band is "Weazer" though. He swears by them. It's all four
chords nowadays. Bobby Rydell with a big dirty guitar! Boring.
John says "Artful
Dodger" seekers can go to http://www.amazon.co.uk Two weeks delivery.
Thanks alot. "Livin' in sin with a safety pin" I wrote into Cleveland
rocks circa Ô78. There were a lot of punks around at the time. I
called Ôem Safety Pins.
Because it's
a different version of All American Alien Boy - I think.
Dear Bob -
the lyrics to Picasso would be on the liner sheet inside "Artful
Dodger." There's a couple of places you can get this album that
I've mentioned previously (check above).
Do I still
see "Eric the Oyster?" No, not much. I spoke to him on the phone
a few weeks ago. I see Joey Bouchard now and again. It's a question
of geography really. If you live near somebody you're bound to see
more of them.
Literally I
am an adult, but isn't writing retarded imagination? Just because
most people lose their imagination it doesn't mean I should be upset
that I kept mine. "Bastard" is a good song; the complete opposite
of most of the papp that's put out about love. "Morons" is another
good song. The titles may be a little off colour in this precious
little world we live in nowadays, but judge them by content not
by title. You haven't even heard "Morons" yet!
Ronald says
Artful Dodger is listed at: http://hmv.co.uk/ They apparently ship
to the U.S. at a good price. Thanks Ronald.
Will I tour
with the English or the American band? I don't know what I'll do
as of yet. Probably the English band will tour England and the U.S.
band will tour the U.S. It's a matter of economics. Steve Holley
is in both bands. His Mum lives in England so he visits with her
throughout the rehearsal period. If you bring a band from the U.S.
to England or if you bring the English band to the U.S. you then
have the air fares and hotels including rehearsal to consider. This
can mount up quickly so it's practical to have an English band in
England and an American band in the States. Hope this explains what
goes on.
Thanks for
all your best wishes and thanks to those of you who tell me how
fab I am all the time. Keeps the old ego raging! !! These are good
times. I think you're going to love the new album and we've tried
our hardest to get it the best it can be. That's all you can do
really, isn't it? I'll write again when it's done.
Happiest of
New Years to all of you from all of us at the Horses' Mouth.
New Year's Eve
